Estes Park Ride

From Fort Collins(A) head South into Loveland, Colorado (B). When you encounter US 34, known as Eisenhower Blvd in Loveland, head West towards the mountains. I would suggest getting gas in Loveland as gas west of here gets expensive quickly(a new Safeway gas station in Estes Park has helped lower the price of gas in Estes Park in general). Follow US 34 west and into Big Thompson Canyon. It starts at the "Dam Store" (C), and you'll know when you get there. This road is patrolled fairly heavily so keep speeds under control. Halfway up the Canyon is Drake, Colorado (D). Here you can continue on US 34 into Estes Park, or turn right on Co Rd 43 towards Glen Haven (G). I particularly like this way up to Estes Park, but the road is very slow with lots of 25mph twisties and a couple S turns with sand, but the view at the top of Devils Gulch before you get into Estes Park is fabulous. In Glen Haven, stop for a Cinnamon Roll and/or ice cream depending on the time of day. Either way, you'll end up in Estes Park (E). Here you can turn around, eat lunch, go into Rocky Mountain National Park, or go South combining other roads for other loops described later. Watch for Big Horn Sheep 2 miles west of Drake. If you turn around in Estes Park, come back the way you didn't go up, either via US 34 or through Glen Haven.
